I installed DWCS6 on a laptop I still have DW8 on my production machine , set up the first “site” and started cranking out the tutorials. CHapters 1 – 13 are good for basic page layout, typography, html, and styling. Once I’d finish a tutorial I’d look at the source code to figure out what was going on.

With the concepts I picked up about mobile and responsive design, I’m looking forward to reading and working through a more rigorous book on these subjects. This is a book about the fundamentals of Dreamweaver, and as such should be considered a first steps lesson book.

For me, it was wonderfully received, well written and easy to follow along. It gave me a strong basis of understanding what I could do, and how to do it. If you are willing to complete all the lessons, and are the type of person who is open to learning by trusting the instructor is there to teach you, this is a great book for you. I bought the Kindle edition, and downloaded the source materials from the links provided, and completed the lesson in a few weeks.

Every direction was crystal clear and there was no searching for missing menu items, commands or anything else.

After just 4 hours I had completed chapters and done all the tutorials without a single error. Spent the next hour doing a web site using a fixed width of pixels and length of pixels. Used the methods in chapter 5 but decided chapter 6 was better for my purposes. By hour 6 my web site was complete and displayed perfectly in all browsers, looked positively gorgeous on the Ipad somehow formatted itself to fit precisely!

Using CSS classes is very handy, when I changed several items that all used the same rule, they all updated simultaneously. The positive reviews were right on the mark, a superb book even for someone with zero web design experience.

My primary reason for buying this book was learning more in-depth about Fluid Grid Layouts and mobile site development. There were two chapters total – and not nearly as much “meat” as there should have been. Honestly, if you’re doing anything with Dreamweaver CS Don’t waste space explaining how to do something that could have been mentioned once – at the start of the book.

There were a lot of spots in the book where, instead of providing additional information, I was directed to purchase another book or two. Why isn’t that information here? Especially when it pertains directly to the information being presented in the book. One other point. When the authors are explaining where to go and open, close or select items – there is scant use of alternative fonts.

This is really a big problem when there are several references in the same paragraph – but no change in font style to call your attention to a specific word – like ‘menu’ or ‘ID’. This book will more than likely whet your appetite for more information. However, just as the authors state themselves – you need to buy another book for that information.
